This edition of the competition, themed “Gathering for Innovation, Moving Forward Together toward the New”, is a national-level event sponsored by the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The finals were held in Hangzhou and hosted by the Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology, and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology. He said that the Party Central Committee attaches great importance to disruptive technology innovation, and the MIIT has stepped up its layout in disruptive technologies through measures such as the National Key R&D Program and the “open competition” mechanism for future industry innovation tasks. In this competition, Hangzhou winonco won the unanimous recognition of the judges and experts with its core technology breakthrough and industrialization application capability in “Pulse Rebirth, winonco Empowerment——Wknife Tumor Ablation System”.

Cancer is a worldwide problem that all humanity is committed to overcoming, and the treatment situation is severe. In 2000, the team was the first in the world to propose a brand-new cancer treatment approach in which a high-voltage pulsed electric field induces irreversible electroporation in tumor cells for tumor treatment. This method has the non-thermal selective advantages of ablating the lesion while protecting healthy tissues such as important blood vessels and nerves, and can break through the clinical no-go zones of existing treatment technologies; at the same time, its excellent immunological response and its effect of improving the solid tumor microenvironment can make it the most advantageous tool for tumor debulking and a potent agent for immunotherapy/cell therapy, with broad clinical prospects.

After more than twenty years of long-term research, the team has continuously updated and iterated its pulsed electric field technology around clinical needs and solved clinical pain points one by one. Wknife is the latest frontier technology in the field of pulsed electric field ablation. It is the world’s first innovative medical device based on a new-generation broad-spectrum synergistic Steep Pulse Therapy Device tumor ablation method for tumor and local tissue ablation, and it achieves a clinical breakthrough from “general anesthesia” to “local anesthesia”; in addition, it creatively designed China’s first IRE single-needle ablation electrode, realizing the clinical shift from a “multi-needle parallel” mode to a “single-needle ablation” mode. Technologically, it has overcome the clinical difficulties of existing products such as strong muscle contraction and the need for multi-needle ablation. Its working principle is a global first, and the theory and technology involved in Wknife are at the internationally leading level. It can be used in medical institutions for the treatment of benign and malignant conditions including those of the liver, pancreas, lung, prostate and thyroid.



At present, the product has passed the Class III medical device registration testing of the National Medical Products Administration and has obtained the approval of the Center for Medical Device Evaluation of the National Medical Products Administration as an innovative medical device. More than 300 multicenter clinical trial cases have already been completed at more than 20 renowned domestic medical institutions, including Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Southwest Hospital, Beijing You’an Hospital and Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, with remarkable results.
